kaveheng Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I have been offered two PhD positions with two different subjects, which one is more useful, applicable and has a better future both in academic and industry? 1- "FEM on Surfaces:surface diffusion, surface tension, elastic shell" the aim is to develop and study new, structurally simple FEM on surfaces, which will focus on computing the actual surface instead of mapping between the surface and the plane 2-"Multi-objective optimization of machine components" and "Robust optimization" Category Additional Details Well, the Fund is exactly the same! Both are in the same university.
Musikalgeak Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 You should go with what you are more interested in. You should look at papers regarding each research subject and see which one is more appealing to you. There is no sense in choosing a subject if you're not interested in it because you're going to work on it for the next 5-6 years, even if the other one might have a "better future." Also, I think any PhD offer is great and will give you what you need to have a successful future, regardless of the topic. In all, you should be proud of yourself for getting two PhD offers from a university because that in itself is a great accomplishment.
