I got an email yesterday. Accepted to York.  Formal acceptence will be in the mail (including funding info) next week.  Good luck to everyone else.

Congratulations, scottr!! I am definitely starting to get a bit anxious. I also applied to the PhD at York. Still haven't heard anything.

Yes.  I just noticed the majority of people in this dicussion haved applied for phd's.  Is this convo specific for phd's? Is there one for masters?

Posted

I just called ComCult at York and the administrator told me that Admissions will be sending out offers (via email, I think) mid to late next week. I think myfile will flag the status sooner though...

Not sure about the PhD program but I know from friends and getting one myself that they have begun emailing acceptences this week.  They said they would mail out formal acceptences next week along with funding packages.

From what I have read on forums its common that the first round of people accepted get offer 15k for the 2 year program.  Not positive about the PhD program but I remember seeing some post something about 20k offered.  Whether that was for the whole program or per year I cannot recall.  Seems a little small for the whole program though.

FYI, I called York's Com Cult again today and the administrator told me they had their PhD admissions meeting already and have made their decisions. She suggested I email the graduate program director who would tell me my status. That said, I haven't gotten a response yet.

York's ComCult PhD program has made their first round of offers and my file was not one of them. I am still on a list of possibles, but it will depend on whether the first candidates (and how many) accept the position or not.  Sigh. Just wanted to share what I heard.

I'm also an applicant, who hasn't heard anything. Did they tell you if offers went out by email or post?

Posted

I think the offers were sent out by email, but I could be wrong. Maybe email the GPD like I did? Does your York myfile also say "no decision yet"?

Posted

Yes, it says no decision yet. To be honest, I'm afraid to email. For all I know, I'm breaking the silence for a rejection. Sigh.

I completely understand, Loren. I have a feeling if it were a flat out rejection, your status might have changed on myfile. My fingers are crossed for both of us!

Even though being on the wait list isn't a flat out rejection, I can't help but be a little disappointed.

If it was a rejection, a friend told me it would be "Reviewed - Unsuccessful," like it was for her in another program. So I think I am on the waiting list. I saw some of the posts last year, and there were others who were contacted for permission to forward their application to Ryerson, for re-consideration. I didn't get that email at all. It's complete radio-silence except for what I know on my myfile, which, according to others, is quite accurate.

Saw the forums and finally was able to register to talk about my situation.

I am also waiting for a response from Ryerson regarding the MA Communication program. I called about 2 weeks ago and the woman I spoke with mentioned that I should have a response by this weekend but who knows at this point. I'm hesitant to call back of course but who knows. Just stay positive !

I was accepted into the Carleton MA Communication program with scholarship. First choice is Ryerson and am still hopeful for a positive response. I was also wait listed at McMaster.

Wish the best of luck to everyone. Please keep this forum going. :)

Congratulations, frankdeg! Something else Professor Mazepa (GPD at York) said to me was that if I've been offered admission and funding somewhere else, it'd be prudent of me to accept that. Since I only applied to this program for ComCult, I'm waiting it out.

I've applied to health care programs (MSc OT & PT), but they're very different and my heart is set on the PhD, I think. I'll find out next week if I've been offered interviews for the those programs...

I hope it works out for everyone, and I wish you all good luck. I'm sorry I didn't say this beforehand, Tina. Quite rude of me.

Thank you for you advice in regards to accepting my other offer and I believe it is still a good program but waiting for my options. I hope to hear from Ryerson soon but understand my other offer and would like to accept that one this weekend sometime.

I wish you all the best in your applications. :)

Frankdeg, I would wait for my options too if I were in that situation, so I completely understand! Let us know what you decide! Have a great weekend, everyone!

I'm thinking of emailing the GPD and asking about my status, after a week of just looking at MyFile without any word. Tina, I was wondering if you have any advice in terms of how you went about it? I'm really afraid that I will break the silence only for a rejection to come through.
