MIT waitlist

Hi guys, I was wondering whether there's anyone out there with experience regarding the MIT waitlist.

I was really amazed they even put me in, now I'd love to get off it. Do you know of people being waitlisted and later being accepted? Why would anyone decline an offer from them?
