On Saturday, I received a letter of rejection from Ohio State. I was disappointed, but I also received my first acceptance so it didn't sting too much.

Today, I recieved an email from the office of financial aid asking for more information so they could process my funding offer.... The hell??

I called the graduate department and left a phone message, but now I'm all in a tizzy. I'm QUITE fond of their program..... oh why must they torture me... TWICE!!!

I mean, it is probably some evil clerical error. But it could be on either side, right? DAMMIT!

Oy... that's bad!! I have no advice to offer with dealing with the situation - I hope it turns out to be a mistake in your favour though! Good luck :)

That's lame. I hope it turns around in your favor. I have heard of people getting incorrect rejections with very apologetic notes (from schools and from jobs). I'd say check it out, but don't get too hopeful. Since their rejection didn't hurt the first time, don't build it up so they can get you with a 1-2 punch.

It doesn't sound like they are rescinding the offer; they might just need basic demographic info or such clerical things to log your offer into their financial system.

I had something similar. I got a rejection letter from the department, followed a week or so later by a letter from a fellowship committee at that school asking for an interview.

Contact the department and let them know you are still being considered for funding and ask if there is a possibility of overturning the admissions decision and if there is anything you can do to facilitate that (speak with prospective advisors within the faculty, etc). It's worth a shot.

I contacted the department yesterday and I'm waiting to hear back. Thanks for all the good advice!
