getonget Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I just officially committeed to GW last night. I'll be there working on a PhD in history. Anyone else heading to GW? Rent is so expensive there! I'm on the lookout for prospective roommates...
CogNeuroSci Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Congrats! Also commited to GW recently. Doing a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. I agree with you on the rent, it's a killer.
Tooma Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Congrats and welcome to GW. Make sure you check this website (http://gwoffcampus.com/) if you are seeking roommate(s).
getonget Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 Thanks for the advice, Tooma. CoNeuroSci -- let me know if you decide to enroll! I'm looking forward to moving
GreenePony Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Heading there for a MA in Museum Studies (really excited to see the new space). I think DH and I will be living in NOVA, we're on the waitlist for an apartment in the capitol hill area but I can deal with a 20 mn metro ride if that lowers our rent.
jaywalker Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 It's looking like I'll also be at GW in the fall for a PhD in Math. Moving to DC will be bittersweet for me, since I LOVE the city, but I had my heart set on somewhere else. But I'll definitely be making the most of it. If anyone is looking for roommates, let me know!
kcaz Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Barring a horrific accident, I'm likely going to GWU in the fall for a MA in Math. Coming from the Delmarva Peninsula, I've got a flimsy knowledge of DC but no real experience of living in the city. Suffice to say, it should be interesting.
slc1404 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I'll be attending GWU in the fall for my MA in Anthropology (concentration in Museum Studies). I can't wait. And I will be living in HOVA. Coming from a small undergraduate college, going to a school in the city is definitely going to be an adventure!

Coming from a small undergraduate college, going to a school in the city is definitely going to be an adventure! How does the concentration work? I noticed that the Anthro and American Studies (soooo much cross over) had a lot of museum studies focused classes. Do you just take anthro classes or do you take mstd classes too?

Do you just take anthro classes or do you take mstd classes too? It's mainly focused on anthro, but I'll be required to take 12-15 credits of either anthro classes that are museum related or I can take mstd classes! And of course I have the opportunity to do internships as well!
jersey Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I'll be at GW this Fall as well for my MS. I'm coming from the NYC area but have visited DC a few times for sight seeing and visiting friends. What I've seen I've liked... it will be an interesting 2 years and I hope to enjoy every minute of it. I do have some undergrad friends that live in the DC area (Alexandia etc.) so I wont be totally alone but I'll be staying in HOVA housing. Decided to just live in the Grad dorm the first year so I wont have to worry about looking for a place...especialy because I wanted to be as close to school as possible to build relationships and enjoy everything the school has to offer. I plan at the moment to move off campus summer into 2nd year, hopefully find some cool people to try a group house. I have a great funding situation so I don't have to worry about cost but the dorm was a no brainer for me at the moment. I've already given in notice at my job a while ago (one of those wall street banks) and I am enjoying my much needed time off to just relax and connect with all my friends and family before the move and school. I'm hoping I havent totally lost the school mindset because I did work for a few years after undergrad.
GreenePony Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Anyone else have their loan info 'received, not reviewed' according to the banner site? I sent mine at the beginning of June and nothing has been done about it- same with a friend in the my program.
kcaz Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Yep. Sent an(other) e-mail yesterday and received a reply today. Per financial aid it takes six weeks or more to get reviewed and then two or three weeks to apply the funds and that the banner site is the most current source of loan status.
GreenePony Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 That's definitely more useful than the response I got- they didn't even actually read my email and started talking about MPN and entrance interviews. Oh well, thanks. I guess I should have known better than to hope they'd be more on top of things than my UG.
