I was wondering if anyone has experience of deferring the admission for a semester or a year due to money concern or other issue?

Most likely, are the schools willing to hold the seat for you?

Entirely depends on the school. So you should ask them, preferably a secretary or so, and not your POI.

I tried to defer last year to save money to offset loans and they wouldn't let me. They told me I'd have to reapply this year. All the same, you could ask the admissions office.
