anon1 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Any reason to choose one school over the other? anon1 1
SixFender Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) I'd think it depends on what your area of study is, e.g., programming. While UCLA is ranked higher overall in Computer Science in general, UCSD may have a stronger program in the area your plan to study. Do your research. On a more suvillian note, Los Angeles traffic is horrible, has lots of smog, and housing is likely more expensive. If they're having a recruitment weekend, I recommend visiting to weigh out all the pros and cons if you feel that the area itself may have an impact on your decision. lecorbeau Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 As a former UCSD undergrad, I can assure you that the school takes great pride in/takes care of its science/medical/echnical/engineering/etc. students to an extent that often leaves other departments in the dust budget and amenities-wise. San Diego quality of life overall is far better than UCLA, but La Jolla is not an overly student-friendly town when compared to Westwood.
hungry Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 UCLA is in Westwood which is arguably the nicest part of southern cal aside from the OC. It's nothing like being in LA or around USC - where I went , so don't let the idea of it being a bad area influence your decision.
