Ice Man Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 When NSERC covers tuition, tuition can't be claimed. But what about textbook and education amounts. Can that be claimed? Universities only send out 2202As out when tuition is paid. If it can, be claimed how is that documented.
ktel Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Where have you heard the tuition can't be claimed? My tuition has always been covered by scholarships, yet my parents were still able to claim my tuition credit in their taxes.
Ice Man Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Since I posted the original, the 2202A has surfaced, and my questions have been answered. Tuition is reported. Thanks KTEL for your response.
lewin Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Yup. The distinction is that NSERC is not reimbursing you for tuition, they're paying you a salary. From your salary you pay tuition so you can claim it.
