todamascus Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Who else got this email? The New School for Social Research Admitted Student Reception Thursday, March 29, 2012 • 6:00-8:00 p.m. The weird thing is, I have not heard anything from them prior to this - nothing, not an interview, not an email, not a status update, not an offer -- and then this?! ( or is that the local post office is messing with me- they have returned my stuff to senders before just because they do not read english. yes. no warning. and with a nasty attitude. ) Is this a yes from them or an interview or what? Anyone?
Stelle Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Hello todamascus, My situation is totally the same as yours. I wrote to them and they said that a small number of people may receive the invitation email before the official decision arrives. However, they are not able to tell us if receiving this invitation email means a yes or not, so I am also quite worried. I wonder if there are other ways for the applicants to know the official decision (e.g. websites where we can check our status)? If not I guess we will have to wait for the decision mail to come.

gsloan Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 wait, I'm in the same boat as GregSamsa here and didn't get an email... do you think this means I'm for sure not in, or maybe they're just doing the first round of acceptances? How upset should I be here? meeerp.
todamascus Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) You should be able to check your status by now. Look up your emails and find the one titled " application acknowledgement" from them. Use the student Id they've enclosed, use it to look up NetID and you should find your admission result.( PIN no. is your date of birth mmddyy.) The email looks like this, " To check the status of your application and see which credentials have been received and which may still be outstanding, please visit the following web page: http://www.newschool.edu/Alvin/appstatus.htm To log in, enter your student ID number ******* as your login ID and follow instructions for entering your PIN. You can log in anytime to check the status of your application. " Edited March 23, 2012 by todamascus
gsloan Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Mine still says "complete ready for review" like it always has. No news is good news? Has other people's status changed? Is this a reliable way to see admissions results? Sorry, I'm out of town and can't check my postal mail constantly, so what am I to do? haha

Sorry, I'm out of town and can't check my postal mail constantly, so what am I to do? haha I have the same notification from the webpage, but today I got a letter from them saying I was waitlisted. PLEASE!!! If anyone who was accepted is not planning to go, notify them asap!

Is this a reliable way to see admissions results? Sorry, I'm out of town and can't check my postal mail constantly, so what am I to do? haha @gracesloan: my page has several lines below "complete ready for review", showing "Current Program: Master of Arts", "Level: Graduate", "Program: NSSR MA", "Catalog Term: Fall 2012", ...etc. I wonder if this means I'm accepted to their master's program? Also I received an email today that explains details of financial aid awarded to me; however, still no admission decision in the email. Hope this information helps!
todamascus Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 I am really, really sorry -my mistake, the link i posted *does not work* - GregSamsa 's does. I must've confused these two when i was looking through multiple tabs. I found my new status here :https://my.newschool.edu/cp/home/displaylogin " Congratulations on your acceptance and we look forward to seeing you at The New School. From this tab you can: pay your tuition deposit online, check your financial aid status, and access forms for international students." I cannot decide yet -- i wrote to ask about details but haven't heard back from them(financial aid status is still unavailable) - but i don't think i will be going unless they are really, really generous (very unlikely, considering its a masters). I will let you guys know as soon as i know. @GregSamsa @gracesloan Best of luck guys!
gsloan Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 update from my end, mynewschool finally let me log in and I got the same " Congratulations on your acceptance and we look forward to seeing you at The new School. From this tab you can: pay your tuition deposit online, check your financial aid status, and access forms for international students." message! ...that means I'm in... right? haha, I can't seem to trust it without a personal email or a letter or something. I asked the admissions office if this was a valid way to check admission status, and they said to just look at alvin or wait for a letter. Not really encouraging. this is hardly mid-march.
uhohlemonster Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Hey, I went to Eugene Lang (NS for undergrads) and got into NSSR's MA in Historical Studies. I'm not going (going to NYU for a phd, so I'll be right nearby) but I know for a fact that the reception is only for admits, so if you got that email you are definitely admitted. And I would trust the MyNewSchool thing, though I suppose somehow it could be wrong. Sorry, though this isn't my field, I'm butting in because I use to work for New School admissions and have some idea of how things work there. Feel free to PM me with questions about the school, neighborhood, or anything else! I love New School with all my heart! Good luck!
GregSamsa Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Hey everyone! I got an e-mail from Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, saying "Thanks for your interest, Over the coming weeks you will receive additional information regarding our curriculum and academic programs, as well as some helpful information about applying for admission and financial aid. You will also receive materials that will allow you to learn about and engage in the Lang community". Why am I receiving this if I applied to NSSR? It means I am rejected for NSSR, right? Is it possible that they have a newsletter for those who were not accepted in the other divisions of The New School? I am really sure that I never suscribed to anything from Eugene Lang. Can anyone clarify this situation? Thanks!
uhohlemonster Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 hahahahahaha as a Lang alum, this ^^ cracked me up. Maybe by now you've figured out your NSSR status, but that is classic New School, messing up which division sends you an email or whatever. Good luck! (feel free to PM me with questions on the new school.)
