Hello out there,

I've been accepted into the MFA program at Glasgow School of Art but have pretty much only had their website for info. Does anyone have some knowledge to share? Understanding of how the degree is accepted in the US? Know anyone who has been there? Any info would be very very very much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Hi, Its a very highly regarded university in the UK, best art school outside of London I believe, and it has a great reputation for producing quality artists, just look at the Turner prize nominees.

Also Glasgow is a great city to live in, the arts school is a great building. I lived in Glasgow for 2 years (studying medicinal chemistry - long story) and I would definitely live there again, I only went to the art school for the club nights though, the did some amazing nights. I have some friends from GSA who did their undergrad there so PM me and I'll see if I can put you in touch if you have questions. Have you applied? Its really competitive to get in to I've heard.

I have no idea of their reputation abroad though!

If you haven't heard how good the glasgow school of art is - im a bit worried about you as an artist tbh. That's like me asking what this Yale/Risd/CalArts place is all about.

GSA outranks RISD for a start, pretty miuch equals everywhere else and you can exchange to chicago for a year as well.

Don't expect to meet too many Glaswegians though.

I'm still waiting for a decision at GSA. Applied to the MLitt in Fine Art Practice. Decaf, did they interview you? How long did you wait for a decision.

Yep, I was interviewed on March 14th and notified of my acceptance about a week and a half later. Hope that helps!

I've also been accepted to the grad program at GSA, and only have there website info with few outside perspectives.

Their program has no classes involved. You have 4-5 graduate advisors/tutors and several visiting tutors, studio space, and a strongly research-based structure. There seems to be a highly stimulating community with a promotion of the interdisciplinary practice and great resources.

The choice is between Glasgow and SFAI in New Genres. My work is video/documented performance/sculpture, etc.

If anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated!

I would definitely go with Glasgow if its not too expensive. I notice many more impressive artists from there than SFAI.

Now am new to the world of Arts. An engineer by my previous education, I am trying to pursue a Masters in Product Design. I am hoping to get into MSc in Product Design Engineering at GSA. I glean from the trailing posts that GSA is definitely a reputed school in Fine Arts but could you please tell me if MSc in PDE is also as good?
