Applying for Spring Admission Questions

I was offered a RA spot at my undergraduate institution with full funding + a stipend for next year.... then that spot was cut due budget cuts. So now I am in Limbo as far as graduate school. Because of this, I did not apply to nearly enough graduate schools and it doesn't seem like I have much of a shot at funding. I have two possibilities left for funding, but I think I shouldn't hold out too much hope.

Is there any chance of getting funding when entering in the spring? Is this a good idea? I would be going for mechanical engineering, if that makes any difference and have pretty decent specs (3.8 GPA, 167 Q, 153 V, 4 AW, good recommendations and SoP)

..and just to be clear (don't see an edit button), I am looking for funding. I have been admitted to plenty of places.
