dimanche0829 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 With acceptances out and decisions to be made, it's only a matter of time before people start getting jittery about embarking on their grad school journey. For many, these jitters will continue to develop into an ugly case of Imposter Syndrome. But I'd like to think that most everyone eventually has a "breakout" moment; that moment when the discussion spotlight is on you and you suddenly muster up the courage to let unexpected words of sheer brilliance roll off your tongue; that moment when you finally feel like you're on the same level as your cohort. So I'm just curious about how that breakout moment happened for you. What were you talking about? At what point did you finally feel like you had made a strong contribution to class? That sorta thing
jma310 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 It was my second week of my MA. We were discussing Edgar Huntly, which I dislike but I digress. The week before we talked about Wieland and I barely said a word which is unlike me. I said something during the EH class and suddenly I felt like I fit:)
effess Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Penultimate year of my BA, when I got an essay back with a ridiculously high mark. I thought at first that it said 60 (a 2:1, which is a respectable grade in England) and then realized it said 80, which was the highest grade I'd ever seen (a very high 1st). I've escaped imposter syndrome since then, but I fully expect it to come back the second I start my PhD!
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 When the head of the department put my ten hour take-home test up on the overhead telling everyone he had an example of what they should have done. The course was linguistics, and I am a romanticist. Booya. Two Espressos 1
