So I appplied to a PhD program in engineering and got rejected but was giving an MSE without funding as consolation. I talked with the Professor and he claims it takes about the year before students get used to the equipment and experiments that is why masters students aren't offered funding.

However concerning funding, his exact words were "After you complete your first term here and have grades, we can talk to see if there would be any openings in my group".

I'm currently searching for a scholarship from my home country which I believe I'll get but only for the first year. Got me thinking - what happens in the second year. What if I'm not able to secure funding from the school. What next... Since I'm also an international student, I'm generally not eligible for fellowships and financial aid... Need advice people.
