However, you are advised to contact individual faculty members whose work you are interested in, and explore a possibility of a research assistantship (RA) with them (For a list of faculty and their research interests, see the Materials Science Program website: http://____.edu) Exceptional students also have an opportunity to obtain a RA after the first year of graduate studies… Additionally, there are a few Teaching Assistantships available on a competitive basis, especially after the first year of graduate studies at ____ What does this mean? Does this mean most likely I won't get a funding in 1st year of Graduate Study ? and i have to find profs now to get Ra for 2nd year~graduate?

rising_star Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 You should do as the email suggests and contact faculty about RA possibilities. What the department is telling you is that they don't have any money (TA funds) to offer you.
