phyanth Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 So, I am starting my first year as a grad student this fall and I am applying to be a graduate student instructor for a physical anthro lab! I need to write a letter of intent, but I am not sure what exactly to highlight. I have teaching experience as a docent at a natural science museum and have taken a plethora of upper level/grad courses in physical anthropology during my undergrad career. How should I talk about the courses, and what else could I talk about? Would it be appropriate to discuss personal characteristics (outgoing, enthusiastic, organized, etc), or is it unnecessary/unprofessional? I would love to hear any feedback! Thanks
CarlieE Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 You might want to check out the SOP threads since both an SOP (Statement of Purpose) and Letter of Intent or Statement of Intent are more or less the same.
stell4 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I think it is appropriate to discuss personal characteristics, just try to not make it a list of what you know everyone wants and highlight how your personal characteristics make you more fit for the position. I think with that and talking about your past experience and course work you will have an plenty to make a good letter of intent; it really shouldn't be too long or wordy. Sorry I have no suggestions for wording, hopefully someone else has some good ideas there. I know I too could use some help with that
