Stipend + fellowship?

Hi all, this may not be the best place for this question, but I'm not sure where else to post. In my official acceptance letter, I was told I'd be supported by a TAship. Today, I received a letter in the mail saying I'd been granted a $5000 fellowship to be awarded in May 2013 (guess they want to make sure I don't drop out before giving me money). I am assuming this is on top of the stipend from my TAship?

That is something you should ask to whoever offered you the funding package/TAship.

I agree with ticklemepink but I'd guess this is in addition to the TAship and is structured to serve as summer funding.

Thanks! I contacted the graduate coordinator this morning, and you were right busybee3. It is meant to serve as my summer funding. Whew. 5k would NOT have been enough to live on for a year.
