RosamundReage Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Hi everyone, I am extremely nervous about sending in papers for journals, and I was thinking maybe sending my work to a professional editor may alliviate some of my anxiety. I have found a few through google, but I was wondring if anyone here has ever used a professional editor, and if they have any recommendations? A lot of the services seem to also be essay wrting services, which I am not interested in, and I was worried they are not really professional and may be a scam.
Dal PhDer Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Hi there, I have never done that before, but I have taken advantage of the writing center at my university- you might want to try this free service. They have always been really good at editing, pointing out suggestions, and readability for me- and they normally have a quick turnaround. If I sent it off to a editor, I might be worried about scams like you said, and them stealing my work- this is only because i have no experience with any of these people! SeriousSillyPutty 1
Celeste Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 The writing center at my school is pretty good, but they lack the technical expertise needed to effectively edit scientific manuscripts. They do put on writing workshops every semester though, which are helpful. It may be worth finding out if your university does something similar. I actually do manuscript editing specifically for grad students in the biomedical and life sciences. I'm not sure if this would fit your needs exactly, but feel free to check out my website if you are interested. http://celestebrennecka.wix.com/perfectingpapers
