katiejohnson Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Hello, I'm in the progress of applying for grad schools, and was wondering which is a better program in terms of job replacement? Also, I graduated with a Stats degree, so although I do have some programming experience (intro to Java, intro to C++, extensive use of R for statistical computing), is it enough for a bioinformatics program? Also would a Phd or masters program be better? I feel a Phd degree will open up opportunities for higher level jobs, but will also significantly narrow the job field. Thanks for any input! cyprusprior 1
cyberwulf Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) If you already have training in statistics, I would go with biostatistics. One advantage of biostat is that you can keep your options relatively open in terms of the types of problems you want to work on. I don't think a PhD will limit your job options tremendously; plus, there's an opportunity to get funding in PhD programs. Edited July 7, 2012 by cyberwulf cyprusprior 1
