rejectedloser Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Anyone know if Yale is done with acceptances or has a waitlist? Also, Yale's ranked 20th in sociology. Anyone know if they are improving? Have they been 20th for a long time now? I can't seem to find rankings from the 90s and early 00s. What about job placement?
samoth Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I think the ranking varies significantly according to sub-fields. For example it's ranked fifth in cultural sociology ( http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... of_culture ). Also, they've just recruited two prominent faculty members from other universities. I think it's safe to say that their ranking is expected to rise.
rejectedloser Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Man would I love to get in...(mostly interested in cultural sociology). The ranking's always surprised me though. Assuming your talking about Gorski and Adams, I wonder why rankings haven't improved since they were hired. Wasn't that five years ago?
samoth Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 You're right, I assumed that this was a recent development and I now see that it is old news. I was also surprised by the relatively low ranking, considering the long list of prominant names this department boasts.
