nicholysseus Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Hey folks, Does anyone know what the yield typically is on a round of first offers? I'm currently sitting on 2 wait lists, so I'm wondering what my chances actually are. I know this probably varies from school to school, but does anyone have a general idea? My thanks.
pkong Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Good luck. Are you at the top of the waiting lists? There should be someone giving up the offers. By the way m which schools put you on the waiting lists
orinincandenza Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Yeah, where you waitlisted at, OP? I'm also curious about this -- I almost emailed the school that listed me today, only to back down at the last second. A letter from them assures me I am "placed high" on the list, but I also know that at least two other folks here received that same letter, so it's hard to figure out. Maybe we're better off not knowing? Oh and I'm waitlisted at Brandeis. I figured people knew that by now, what with all the whining, but it's also not fair to ask it of you and be all secretive over here.
desperate_straights Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 In the same boat. Wait-listed ("at or near the top of the list," which I'm told is extremely short) at my top choice, which is also, for better or worse, a top-tier program. What's especially lousy about it is that, out of ten applications, this is as far as I've gotten after hearing from half of them, with the remaining half looking anything but promising.
commoner Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Your odds get better with each list, but each school has a different approach to their list. Some are ranked, some are not. Look around here. You see some folks with several acceptances. They can only go to one school. Spots will open up. But it may take a while. It's a frustrating wait, and one that didn't pan out for me last year all the way through April 16. Right about now, I'm begging for a waitlisting, but that's another story.
