Skywater Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I've been mainly working with neon while at SAIC. I am going half-time, but it's time to start considering my options. I would like to continue in this medium, but not every school has a neon plant or glass lab capable of accomidating me. So, let's have it: does your school have a neon lab? A glass program of any kind? Let me know so I can start looking into MFA programs that might work for me.
hdsl Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Try Alfred University in western NY state. I went there for undergrad and they have a great glass program (blowing, casting, neon). There were neon classes and studio spaces though I graduated 2001 so I can't say what's offered now. Also I'm pretty sure that their MFA students are fully funded with teaching assistantships. I believe RISD also has a glass program. and maybe MICA?
marzipanned Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I was researching Arizona State U.'s sculpture department today and found this: "The neon workshop is one of four neon facilities worldwide located at universities offering neon art programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels."
losemygrip Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I just want to say that I congratulate you for posing this very specific and materialist inquiry. It's nice to see such a "brass tacks" approach!
