  1. I received a call from Hunter today. I've been taken off the waitlist and accepted for Spring 2014! Definitely going!
  2. Oh I hope so! I'm at a residency right now and have no cell service. I can't call the admissions office until next week! I'll send an email once things settle here but I'm guessing I won't get an immediate response. Jaybird let me know if you get anymore info on this confusion. Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed capers! I have my toes crossed!
  3. I received the same email stating I am waitlisted Spring 2014 but the online decision says accepted Fall 2013. This is confusing. I guess we'll have to wait until Monday to call the admissions office. I'm going to try not to get my hopes up.
  4. Nothing from Hunter here either. I would expect that they'd get back to us by the end of the week. There's still half a day left today and a whole day tomorrow. Fingers crossed this doesn't drag on to next week!
  5. i interviewed at Hunter for Photo and haven't heard anything yet. I'll be sure to post when I do. one of the current grads told me about when she was accepted - her friend received an acceptance call a couple of days before she did. for those couple of days she thought she hadn't been accepted. let's try to stay cool. we might not even hear until next week. ugh.
  6. hopefully we'll hear this wednesday but i won't hold my breath. when i was talking to current Hunter grads on interview day they said notification comes as a phone call. and not everyone is notified on the same day. just fyi.
  7. thanks! a week from today (or up to 3 weeks!) seems like forever! Good luck!
  8. The Bard MFA website has a list of outside grants and fellowship opportunities (as well as residencies). http://www.bard.edu/mfa/funding/
  9. This show of Luigi Ghirri's vintage prints is up now at Matthew Marks in Chelsea. I highly recommend going to see it if you're in the NY area. http://www.matthewmarks.com/new-york/exhibitions/2013-03-06_luigi-ghirri/works-in-exhibition/ His work was also part of the Thomas Demand curated show La Carte D'Apres Nature at Matthew Marks last year. http://www.matthewmarks.com/new-york/exhibitions/2011-07-19_la-carte-daprs-nature/works-in-exhibition/
  10. Did anyone who interviewed at Hunter yesterday ask about when decision notifications will go out? I didn't. Curious because Rutgers has an April 1 decision deadline. I can get an extension at Rutgers but am not sure if I'll need one.
  11. Holy shit capers! Congratulations!! Decisions decisions!
  12. Anyone have advice as some of us prepare for Hunter's interview day this Sunday? Tips from anyone who's gone through the process before? How long should we expect to be there?
  13. Me too. I got my BFA in 2001. I was a bit lost with my practice and stopped making work for years. I focused on a professional career and have another Masters. I returned to making work with a new focus and passion a few years ago. Having had a break I feel that I'm ready and really know why I want to pursue an MFA now.
  14. One other thing to mention about commuting from NYC is the cost. On NJ transit a round trip train ticket is $26 not including the RT subway cost which is now $5 = $31/day! When I was visiting Mason Gross one student who lives in Williamsburg, BK told me that there's a bus from Port Authority that is about half the price of NJ Transit ($13 + $5). Getting from Brooklyn to Rutgers on public transportation is about 2 hours door to door (I did my first Masters at Rutgers while living in Brooklyn). If you decide to get a car for the commute be aware that having a car can be very difficult in NYC. Insurance is very expensive (~$250/month?) and most people park on the street which can be tricky depending on the neighborhood. Also associated with street parking is having to move your car for street cleaning 1-2 times a week. I think garage parking is about $250/month.
