daniellep Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Hey Guys, I'm about to begin writing my letter of intent and I'm wondering who I address it to? I'm applying to the MA program at University of Central Florida and Florida State. Thanks for any help!
GandalfTheGrey Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 My understanding is that "letter of intent" is synonymous with "personal statement" or "Statement of purpose", so you wouldn't need to address it to anyone. None of the schools I applied to used that phrasing, but you can check here for more info: https://career.berkeley.edu/grad/gradstatement.stm
queenleblanc Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 ^^^ Agree with above post. It is a LOI, but it's not necessarily addressed to someone. If you feel you must or you are required to put such a heading, the generic "to whom it may concern," "department of ____," or "admissions committee" might be some ideas to consider.
queenleblanc Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Update, some websites I read today said to avoid "to whom it may concern" -... you'll find tips everywhere that say just about anything you need to hear ... so check with your school career services or writing center if there is one - many times the writing center suggests exactly what their graduate school is looking for.
