MJordano Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Two posts in one day! I'm now wondering about the psychology subject test. When do you think it's helpful? None of the programs I'm looking at say it's required. I've done practice tests and I really think the subject test will be easy, but I just don't know if it's worth the cost. I've asked my mentor and other professors about it, and they say it's most useful when 1) The school actually requires it 2) If you're entering a psych grad program without a major in psych and 3) When the student taking it wants to "improve on" their major GPA. They said with my major GPA and coursework it's really not necessary, but obviously I want to do everything I can to strengthen my application. Thoughts?
lewin Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Sounds like you've received good advice from your profs. I took the psych because some of my program required it. You should find it much easier than the general GRE, I think everyone in my year of grad school had 98th or 99th percentile.
MJordano Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Thanks! I still need to take the General Test (schedules for the 26th). If I can do well enough on the first try I think I'll go ahead and take the psych test, just in case. I'm just running out of money with all these applications!
