So what's the current hot ticket? I have read about the increased need and demand for information security positions, and there are many programs like http://www.scs.gatech.edu/future/msinfosecdistance and https://www.sans.edu/interest/strong-future (candidate for accredation).

Also, there are the old hot tickets like sys administration and goold old programmer/developer. So what's the current hot ticket and what can we do to position ourselves ideally for the future in IT?

There are many hot tickets. The problem is that what is hot today might not be so hot tomorrow. After all, certified Novell engineers had a great time in the mid '90s but can't find jobs now if they didn't continuously update the breadth and depth of their technology skills and credentials.
