Which certificates help the most with applications?

I'm wondering what certificates I could get to beef up my application, especially for people that are switching backgrounds! I'd be willing to study and invest about $2000 to strengthen my application. Thanks.

MS in IT at what school? That sounds more like a professional, terminal master's degree to me, in which case you would be much better off getting relevant work experience in the information technology field.

I am trying to get into UPenn for their MCIT program. What do you mean with terminal professional, terminal degree? I am not chasing a career in academia, if that's what you mean. Please explain.
