michellemmattern Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I'm not "old" (Yellow, you don't sound "old" to me either!), which may be why $20,000 sounds fine to me. Maybe when I'm past 21 I'll change my mind. immersion, I thought you were accepted to UVa? Wouldn't this 4-year stipend question apply to you as well?..
Yellow#5 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Well, Michelle, old enough to know that no one lives forever --- and whomever dies with the most debt wins! but at this point, I'm hoping to get in to UVA just to meet the I-man.
nicholysseus Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Actually, Yellow, you are wrong. Whoever dies with the most debt does not win. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/business/04dead.html?_r=1&em
Yellow#5 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Nic, How am I not winning if I rapture out of this mess and some poor cubi dweller keeps calling my disconnected number for imaginary cash? ...and whoever tries to employ active listening with my mom, or any of my family members, as described in the article, is falling right in to their trap.
immersion Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Yellow 5, I think you are hilarious! I'm sure you'll do amazing..I heard God likes good (funny) people...
Yellow#5 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 heard God likes good (funny) people... Yes, but does the AdCom at UVA like funny people? That is all that matters to me right now. Eternity can take care of itself. ...and I'll thank you to pronounce that Yellow NUMBER five. http://www.rhapsody.com/soul-coughing/r ... yrics.html (be sure to disable pop-up blocker if you want to listen).
SmartCookie Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Wait Yellow5 did you get the response just now?
JKessler Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Well, I got a response: Deny. At least I have offers from Indiana and Penn State. I hope people still waiting get something positive. -Jeff
Yellow#5 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Wait Yellow5 did you get the response just now? Yes, I posted right after I checked my status. I don't know when it changed, but I also got an email sometime later that evening telling me I was denied. Good luck Cookie, you are still in the game. Give my regards to the I-man if you get in.
SmartCookie Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Oh dear, I'm so sorry Yellow5. I'm not celebrating just yet. Not many seem to have posted rejections from UVA Master's yet. I'm sure they're coming to get us leftovers soon.
Yellow#5 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Let's be honest, UVA is an AMAZING English Dept., but could I ever learn to talk slow enough to live in Charlottesville? Probably not.
irishcoffee Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Hey, you "penders." I understand (from other site) that waitlist notifications were made today. Those that are on the list are still "pending" online. There were 12 acceptances out of 400 or so applications. So...I'm guessing that if for some reason you're still pending, it's over.
michellemmattern Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Wait--irishcoffeee, waitlist notifications for MA or PhD? Or both? And notification that one is ON the waitlist, or accepted from it? And what do you mean, "it's over"?' Over as in, you're in or you're out?
nicholysseus Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I know that my waitlist notification (for Ph.D.) was made a week ago via post. Having said that, I'm not sure if they would notify in waves etc.
irishcoffee Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Sorry, everyone! I certainly didn't mean to be cryptic. The other site in question (are you sure you really want to know?) is Who Got In and it's English-only offshoot, the WGI Lounge on livejournal. I believe the waitlist in question was for the PhD program.
dd87 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 wait: so, if we're still pending, we've been rejected? those of you who have been waitlisted: what's your admission status online?
Bpr2106 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 You guys can email Peter Baker if you like: Director of Graduate Admissions - Peter Baker Bryan Hall 228, 434-924-6651 psb6m@virginia.edu ...He seems to be a really nice guy. Also, the news is that all Ph.D. offers have been made...so if you're still pending, chances are you have not been offered a spot in the Ph.D. program. Also, M.A. offers will be sent out by the "end of this week". So everyone should be finding out about that situation soon.
michellemmattern Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Hi everybody, I'm just letting you know that I was accepted to UVa's masters program today! I hope everyone else who was waiting on this also receives good news!
Bpr2106 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Congrats!! Were you accepted by email, or did you find out by checking your status on the UVA website?
michellemmattern Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Thank you, Bpr! Peter Baker sent me an e-mail. I don't know if he contacted everyone personally or not--I had written an inquiry about my status on Friday, so he may only have written me to reply to my inquiry.
