I'm at a new school for my PhD (started this past summer) and I'm not settling in. I know I need to give it some time, but I'm not excited about taking classes like I was for my master's, I really just want to do my research and graduate. For some reason I just don't have patience to read about topics that aren't related to my research. It doesn't help that I'm the only person in my lab and I don't talk to anyone all day. Has anyone else felt like this after transferring and if so, how did you rekindle your enthusiasm?

3 months later - This lab is empty too.

That's irony. • a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result

swap out amusing for sad or tragic

Hang in there.
