InquilineKea Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) If there are two applicants for the same position, and the higher-ranked applicant holds out on their offer all the way until April 15th, could that pretty much mean that the other applicant is not going to get in? Edited April 11, 2013 by InquilineKea
iowaguy Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I think universities can still make offers past April 15. IOW, if candidate #1 turns down an offer on April 15, what's to keep that university from offering that position to the next person on the waiting list?
InquilineKea Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 if that is the case, then when is the deadline for people who get offers after April 15th?
wabisabi Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) if that is the case, then when is the deadline for people who get offers after April 15th? The only thing in the CGS resolution that's at all related to this is that "an offer by an institution after April 15 is conditional on presentation by the student of the written release from any previously accepted offer." The whole point of the CGS resolution is that schools can't force you to decide early, right? So maybe after April 15 it turns into a big free-for-all. The Scripps system says "For applicants admitted before March 25, the Graduate Intent to Register decision is due by April 15. Applicants admitted after March 25 must submit the Graduate Intent to Register decision within three weeks of the date printed on your Certificate of Admission." That's the only place I've seen any mention of anything like that, though. I'd guess the deadline varies by university. Edited April 11, 2013 by wabisabi
iowaguy Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 One of my offers stated that I must let the grad school know of my accept/decline decision "by April 15 or within 2 weeks of the date of this letter, whichever is later". Which makes me think that some decisions extend beyond April 15... Also, if you look through the admissions results on this website, you will see some PhD students in previous years reporting that they received acceptance offers into May... If it were me, I would keep in close communications with the school I was waitlisted on through April 15 & beyond, reaffirming my desire to attend their program...
