Joint MSW/PhD programs/ Interdisciplinary programs dealing with Social Work/Welfare, Sociology, and Social Policy

Anyone know anything about or looking to apply to PhD or joint MSW/PhD programs?

I'm particularly interested in the joint MSW/PhD at Boston College, but have no idea how competitive admission is or if I'll even be in the running. I really like BC's Center for Social Innovation which is what attracted me to their program.

I have a Master's in Urban Planning, 1 year of experience as a research assistant in demographics, and 2 years of work experience in a macro practice setting. Undergrad gpa was 3.6, grad gpa was 3.85, both from a top ranked public university. GRE scores were 610 verbal, 720 quant, 5.0 aw - taken in 2008.

I'm also thinking about applying to the Human Development and Social Policy program at Northwestern, the Sociology and Social Policy programs at Harvard (though these are long shots). Also considering Tulane's City, Culture, and Community program.

If anyone has any thoughts on these programs, or has suggestions about good interdisciplinary PhD programs in social work, sociology, or social policy it would be great to hear from you!

I don't think you'll have any trouble getting into at least some of the schools you apply to. I would maybe, MAYBE consider re-taking the GRE. Some schools say that they will accept scores from 5 years ago, but others will only take scores up to 3 years ago. Research what your schools 'GRE policy and how recent your scores need to be.

I have some friends in the CCC program at Tulane, if you want to PM me I'll be glad to talk in more detail.

You should also consider the University of Michigan, University of California-Berkeley, and the University of Chicago. All three schools offer joint MSW/PhD programs in Social Work and/or Sociology.
