People on the borders of two subfields: Do you worry about quotas?

I'm on the border of comparative and IR. Does anyone worry that the adcom will split their vote and you'll get lost in the shuffle because you are straddling to fields?

I have 0 idea about adcoms, but I have heard that this can sometimes hurt in hiring.

I don't think this is something you should worry about. I've known people who applied in IR or Comparative, and were basically admitted with the other field listed as their primary field (by the committee), just because the committee thought it was a better fit.
