wideawake42 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Hey Phil, are you talking about Iowa? I am visiting there this week.
Seraphim14 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Hello everyone, I am late to the party, but I thought I would throw my info out anyways. GRE: 164 V, 156 Q, 5.0 AW GPA: 3.32 Applied: Boston College, Fordham, Marquette, Purdue (as well as a few theology programs). Accepted: Marquette Rejected: Boston College (offered spot in MA), Purdue Still waiting on Fordham, but expecting a rejection. Has anyone heard back on funding from Marquette?
superhamdi Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 contradiction, are you waiting on any schools besides UCSB still?
incontradiction Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) A few. UMass, Toronto, CUNY, and Brandeis. Edited March 11, 2013 by incontradiction
humean_skeptic Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I am visiting a campus for a place I will probably attend, and in that case would decline my other offers after the visit if all seems well with the visit. However, I am on the waitlist for somewhere else which I would seriously consider also attending, so I'm not sure when I would inform said place I will visit... Phil are you talking about the Colorado Boulder recruitment weekend? If so, see you there!
superhamdi Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 A few. UMass, Toronto, CUNY, and Brandeis. I applied to UMass and CUNY too. I've only got *official* rejections from about a third of the schools to which I applied, but they've all made offers already so I crossed them off the list. UCSB is the only one that hasn't really said.... anything.

UCSB is the only one that hasn't really said.... anything. I've got CUNY and UMass as maybes still because CUNY hasn't waitlisted anyone and the only two UMass admits both received the Puryear, making me think they might be waiting for funding details before admitting more. Toronto is probably a rejection, but maybe a waitlist? No way to tell. UCSB is killing me. Honestly, I'd be cool with any acceptances. I'm optimistic about getting accepted off the waitlist at BU, less so about Maryland. It'd be nice to know something definite about my future, though. superhamdi 1
lovephil Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Incontradiction, you probably have a great chance of being accepted off BU's waitlist. Everyone: I'm removing myself from these forums until the admissions process is over. I really don't like the obsessive and frustrated person they are turning me into. Good luck with all your applications, and congrats on making it this far!
LawrencevonBuskirk Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Still waiting on Fordham, but expecting a rejection. Has anyone heard back on funding from Marquette? My letter from Marquette didn't mention funding one way or the other. I may call sometime today. If I do, I will report my findings on this board. And don't give up on Fordham! Waitlisting and acceptance without funding are still possible. I know acceptance without funding may as well be rejection, but it sounds nicer!
Seraphim14 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 To those waiting to hear back from Marquette on funding, I just heard back from Craig A. Pierce who informed me that my offer does not include any financial assistance. I am not sure what to do. I have heard from others who were accepted to Marquette that they were eventually awarded funding soon after enrollment even though they had previously been informed that assistance was unavailable. This factor makes it difficult to decide whether to accept or decline.

Just out of interest, do you think he was suggesting that there is no available funding for entering Ph.D. students at the moment? Edited March 11, 2013 by anon530
Seraphim14 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Just out of interest, do you think he was suggesting that there is no available funding for entering Ph.D. students at the moment? He only stated that the department, due to extremely limited resources, was unable to offer me funding. It was directed to me personally, and it sounded pretty final, but I e-mailed Dr. Foster to see if funding may become available in the near future.
incontradiction Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Well, superhamdi, the UCSB thing is getting even more confusing. Now they've rejected a few people and accepted two over the course of nearly a month.
MKEPhil Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I was the UCSB post. Informal email from the graduate secretary with two separate letters from the DGS (one a welcome letter, the other a funding letter). Oddly enough, the letter opened with "I believe that you have been informed by the Dean of the Graduate Division of the University of California, Santa Barbara of your admission to Philosophy Ph.D. program beginning Fall quarter 2013." But this is the first I have heard from UCSB. Perhaps there was a problem with the Dean's office back when the first UCSB offer was posted?
incontradiction Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 That's very odd. Hoping an acceptance is still in my future, but who knows. Either way, congrats!
Phil2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 CUNY rejections and waitlists getting posted, but I haven't heard anything...
incontradiction Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Same situation here. Weird that only one waitlist has been posted.
schaudern Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 So there are Tufts results going out. There are a few notices posted on the results page, and a friend of mine let me know he got in. But I have no notice from Tufts, good or bad, emailed or on the application website. Anyone else? EDIT: Apparently the notifications that have gone out are "unofficial" notices sent out by the head of the department. Official notices from the GSAS will be going out later. I also applied to Tufts, and had no notices from the school. It seems to me that Tufts usually gave acceptance letters at the same time and after few days provided reject mails, according to previous results in this website. Thus I was disappointed. However, I am just wondering why there are only few notices posted on the results this year.
AquinasDuo Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Toronto rejection today (which I find odd as a much weaker application netted me a wait-list spot last time), and implied from Michigan. This is my whole list solved with explicit or implied decisions except St. Andrews (who I know hasn't made announcements yet) and FSU. So, on the latter, has anyone heard anything at all? Their deadline was not particularly late, so it is a bit odd for nothing to have come out yet... OH! Second question: I see Michigan acceptances, but has anyone heard about a wait-list yet? Edited March 12, 2013 by AquinasDuo
LuisPSa Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Did anyone apply to St. Louis University and was either accepted or waitlisted? If accepted, are you waiting to hear from other programs? I'm waitlisted at St. Louis, which is definitely my top choice, and waiting it out is just so agonizing!
Triactry03 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Just got a very annoying email from Tufts saying that my decision will be available via their website "shortly," so I should log on to the website "regularly." Really? You can't just tell me I've been rejected or accepted, you want me to compulsively refresh a web page? Ugh.

Don't know if that helps on the speculation end of things, but thought you might want to know.
Triactry03 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Yeah, I fully expect it to be a rejection - which is why it's annoying! Just send me the thing already.

Unfortunately, I think it's you. You've got something in front of you, just no one knows what it is or when you'll reach it. In my case, it's possible that ETS was so slow sending my scores that my application was never reviewed. v0v Edited March 13, 2013 by xaelyn
