Anthropologistdreamtobe Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I applied to anthropology programs, and just got to know co-applicants to a program got interview invitation and I didn't. What does this possibly mean?
anthropologygeek Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 If the school does interview it's not good for you. However did you apply to work for same poi? If not certain poi can interview while others don't t a school. Lets hope for that situation.
Mecasickle Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 What about the case for international applicants? I know CS almost never does interviews but Neuroscience/Cog.Sci. does: do places like Stanford pay people from Bolivia/China/France to go for interview session?
Scaty05 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I've been wondering the same thing. People have posted in the results that they have received interview requests for Psychology at some of my schools, but none have specified Social Psychology. So I'm not sure if each focus manages it differently within a department or if I'm probably going to be rejected.
Anthropologistdreamtobe Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 (edited) It's interview invitation sent by the director of grad studies. Anyway I would assume, and have accepted, that I am in a disadvantage position. Edited January 16, 2013 by Anthropologistdreamtobe
mewtoo Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 You can always check if you are waitlisted. Acceptances from there are not unheard of, even for people who weren't interviewed in person. I've heard of programs defaulting to phone interviews in this case. Note though, that I think this happens more often with mentor based models than other types.
iowaguy Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 One idea to put your mind at ease - you can call the program to ask if all interview requests have been sent out...
Anthropologistdreamtobe Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 (edited) It's not a mentor styled program, as their website says. Thank you. You can always check if you are waitlisted. Acceptances from there are not unheard of, even for people who weren't interviewed in person. I've heard of programs defaulting to phone interviews in this case. Anthropologistdreamtobe Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 One idea to put your mind at ease - you can call the program to ask if all interview requests have been sent out... I am gonna focus on my immediate schedule and try to forget about the applications. (Because I'm afraid that if I call, displeasure is invoked.)
ruckeme Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 i too have not received any interview invitations from anthropology departments. I am unsure what this means. Solid application, so no questions? No interested professors? Passed first round? the possibilities are endless...also, i received a phone call from a top program in the east, but it was just an admin question. the person also mentioned she was calling 14 other applicants with the same question. are people populating the results page with this as an "interview"?
Akinetopsia Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 What about the case for international applicants? I know CS almost never does interviews but Neuroscience/Cog.Sci. does: do places like Stanford pay people from Bolivia/China/France to go for interview session? I was wondering about the same thing. Do international students who mostly get Skype interviews receive interview invitations at the same time US citizens do? I heard there was a international student quota for admissions (and that also schools have to pay an extra yearly fee to US government for each international student they have, which in turn limits the number of international students they can admit to the program), does that mean they are treated differently during the admission process as well?
