Admission Chances (Mech E applying for aerospace)

I have applied to a few aerospace masters programs (MIT, Cal Tech, Illinois, Geargia Tech, Maryland).

I am a student athlete with no research experience.

Undergrad at a respected state school.

GPA:3.80

Major:3.86

GRE Q: 168, V: 154, 4.0

Do I stand a chance of acceptance?

I am not sure, but I applied for the aerospace programs at all of the same schools and we have similar stats. Good luck, I hope we both get in. What do you want to specialize in?

Yeah, fall 2013. I should correct that. Im looking to specialize in space exploration. What are you looking to specialize in?

I want to specialize in structural design or materials research, with a focus on space flight. I really like deployable structures on satellites and spacecraft.

similar interests, i tried to make my application more specific for each school depending on what type of research that schools professors focus on. Well I hope you get in too. This wait is killing me!

Same situation, I applied to some aero and some mech e depending on the universities research, so far only accepted by Purdue, no funding info.

 

Anyone else heard about funding from Purdue?

I got into Purdue as well. Well at least I have been recommended by the program still waiting for Graduate School approval. I should get it though because my GPA is above the minimum required. Hopefully I get some funding!

I got accepted to Purdue with no funding as well. I am pretty sure that the graduate school approval is just a formality, and you are accepted.

Have the results from GeorgiaTech started coming...I have received admits from UIUC and Purdue...still waiting to hear frm GT. Shortlong ...has ur status been updated online at buzzport.

Hi ShortLong, I noticed from your status that you have already been admitted to Msc aero at GT, so I just wonder when did you submit your application, I also applied for aero at GT, but I have just submitted my application on Jan 31st, and until now my status is still "waiting for dept review".

I have been accepted to GT pending graduate school approval, it came in an email and a letter from the department. But my status has not been updated on buzzport. I was contacted by a professor to have a phone interview for UIUC, but have not heard anything officially from the department yet.

I submitted my application mid-November, and my final LOR was submitted mid-December.

Mech E applying for an Aero should no longer be a concern, I've been accepted to both aero programs waiting to here from the mech e ones that I applied to

Hi Short Long...It was confirmed by ASDL lab at Gatech that I have been accepted to their lab (20th Feb, 2013)....but the decision from School of AE is still pending. I wanted to ask you if this is  just a formality after acceptance in the lab for the grad school to approve ? Did something similar happen to you also and have you received the final confirmation from Grad school at Gatech.

I think that sounds about right. I had a slightly different situation, but I think that if a professor wants to work with you the department won't reject you.
