Stipend and length of financial support

Hey,

I have a few questions about financial support (specifically, I want information about PhD in Computer Science):

1. How much is the average monthly stipend now days?

2. Is there any standard about summer optional research work?

3. What should I expect regarding the length of promised funding (for example, one university offered promised funding for 3 years and afterwards I am supposed to join a professor's research).

I would say all three of these are highly dependent on each university, and they should be detailed in the financial award letter they send to you in the mail. It also never hurts to contact your prospective schools to ask about this.
