I have applied for the combined MSW/PHD program at UC Berkeley and I just found out that I was rejected.

 

I am really worried about the other schools that I have applied.

it does feel like the end of the world but there may be a school that will take you...until now i got into one phd program and did not get into another one....so you never know....wait and see....

I can only imagine that the MSW/PhD program at Berkeley is among the most competitive social work programs out there.

I am interested in international social work and immigrant issues, so I applied to schools focusing on that.

Actually I don't have  a MSW degree, but I have a master's degree in social science.

That's why I applied to more combined msw/phd programs than PhD.

Is it more competetive than phd?

Most PhD programs admit a class of about 10 people, and many of those will already have MSWs. It's a competitive school with a tough pool. 

Consider doing the MSW for now and getting a little work experience before the PhD if you don't get in to a joint program this round.

Yes, I think I have to consider doing MSW first.

Let me ask you one thing.

I have 2 years of field experience as a NGO project manager in a global setting.

Would it be considered post-msw experience?

Just know, from EVERYTHING I have heard, that combined programs (MSW/JD, etc) are very tough to get into.  Don't lose hope!
