This is my first-choice program and I'm very anxious to hear back from them. Just interested if any fellow applicants or former applicants are on here.

I also applied to Tulane as my first choice, but my subfield is archaeology.  Overall, I didn't have much success reaching faculty members - I did receive a fairly generic e-mail from a POI in mid-January saying that the department would only be accepting a few applicants across all subfields, so it was impossible to know yet how it would be broken down between archaeology, cultural, etc.  I haven't heard anything since then.  Of course I've been completely freaking out and checking the gradcafe results page obsessively since the application period ended!  Good luck everyone, and let the rest of us know if you hear anything!

I, too, have been checking gradcafe results regularly. Waiting is not fun! It seems that those who were rejected last year found out via postal service, and around the third week of February. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an e-mail/phone call. Good luck!

Judging from last year, I guess we can expect to hear from them around Feb 18/19 at the very earliest. Just hoping to hear something earlier....it's pretty nerve-wrecking.

pughug- thinking about mardi gras made me think about drunk dancing ron swanson (of parks and rec fame, pictured below), which, in turn, made me think about a handful of my POIs dancing in the same fashion. i'm not a tulane applicant, but holy smokes, that mental image almost made me spit out my coffee laughing. thank you for a much needed giggle fit! i'm just going to pretend that all of my adcomms are waiting for mardi gras and valentine's day to pass, so they won't be tipsy when they make decisions..

Hahahaha I don't know if the alcohol would help or hurt my chances...

The post on the results page isn't from me, but I also got an e-mail today asking if I could talk about my application tomorrow or Monday.  It was definitely sent to multiple people since it began "Dear Folks", but who knows how many.  I'm Meso archaeology and it's from a Meso prof, so perhaps it was only sent to Meso applicants?

That doesn't bode well for my application. Yet, congrats and good luck are wished on those making this next step.

Would you mind sharing if you find out more during the interview Tezcatlipoca? That would be super awesome and much appreciated!

Hi Tezcatlipoca. You must have had a pretty decent GRE score, right? I was going to apply to Tulane for Mesoamerican archaeology but apparently they have a GRE cut off.

I'm not sure with the new scores but I think on the old scale it is 1200-1250. It's funny to me because some Ivy Leagues don't have a cut off. My friend was excepted to Brown this year with a very, very poor GRE. He had other stellar credentials, conference presentations, field work, a publication, etc.

I'm not sure what the equivalent scores would be since I took the GRE about 5 years ago before the new scoring system, but I didn't do that wonderfully.  I didn't realize Tulane had a GRE cut off, it must be unofficial since the site doesn't say anything.  I already have an MA so I doubt they paid as much attention as they would for someone straight out of undergrad.

Alright, here's what I learned - none of this is official so it could turn out completely inaccurate.  The department is starting to meet this week to discuss applicants, but I was told it would probably be another 4-6 weeks before final decisions are made.  I got the impression that professors had made their "short lists" and were going to spend the next few weeks haggling over spots.  I have no idea if other subfield professors have or plan to contact anyone they're interested in - I think the "interviews" are really just if a prof wants you to clarify something on your application, so not everyone will have them.
