Hi everyone, I'm applying for a Physics degree at Brandeis University. Based on the information and statistics from previous years, applicants should have heard back by now. However, I haven't heard anything from Brandeis. I emailed the Admissions Coordinator and asked. She said that Brandeis Physics Department had made 2 offers at the beginning of February and invited some applicants to their Open House, and I wasn't one of them. That left me wondering, for very obvious reasons, that I'm not of their interest. Is being invited to Open House a mandatory step or an indicator to an acceptance, or am I just worrying too much?

Thank you for your time.

Could be either. At some schools, an invite to an Open House DOES typically mean that admissions have made their decisions and only accepted applicants are invited. On the other hand, some schools might have an Open House and admit you later or perhaps they might have admitted you already but they don't bother inviting you to the Open House. I'd say it's more likely to be the former scenario but that's based on a pretty small sample size so try not to worry about it too much.

Hope that helps a little bit.
