UNC Fall 2013 - Questions!

Hi!

Has anyone else been accepted to The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill? I applied by the early deadline and received my acceptance in January. However, I cannot find any information on the deadline for accepting the offer or when admitted students will be notified about scholarships. UNC is my first choice, but I need to find out if I got any scholarships. I have sent emails and left voicemails for different people in different offices, and of course I have looked all over the website. But I can't find anything! It is making me worried that I am going to miss the deadline...

Thanks!

I applied for the MSW in UNC.

Still waiting for the result. So nervous!

Im wondering whether most of the applicants have got the results already?

Will they send the decision via email?

Hello! Did you apply by the early decision deadline? I did, and I haven't heard back yet, so I'm getting a bit nervous!

I saw a thread about this from a year or two ago  - I think I searched UNC social work OR msw in the social work forum to find it. Someone in that thread also mentioned having difficulty figuring out when the date is. I think they ended up finding out it is mid or late March. It was before the New Student Admitted Day (which I know is first week of April this year), and also before UNC sends out funding decisions. Actually it is very strange that UNC admits/rejects people and then doesn't send out funding until A LOT later. It would be easier if they sent it out all at once. And, even though you applied by the earlier deadline (Dec 11th I guess?), I think you will have the same deadline date as everyone else since UNC doesn't *officially* have an early decision/admission process.

I also had a lot of trouble getting in touch with people at the UNC office. I ended up emailing and leaving voicemails for a few people -- including Sharon Thomas and Jill Molee. One of them eventually responded to my questions.

I am curious --- how did they notify you? By postal mail or email?

I applied to the MSW at UT and UNC. I've been accepted at UT, but haven't heard from UNC yet (application submitted Jan. 1). I have a great GPA, experience, and references, but I really bombed the GRE. Does anyone know how UNC weighs the GRE?

Hi! I was accepted. I received notification on the 16th of January. I think notifications will come out around March/April.

I got my acceptance email yesterday to check my online account. This link was in the letter:

http://gradschool.unc.edu/admissions/admittedstudents.html

It let me set up my email, create my ONYEN, and log in to my student account where I could view financial aid. The financial aid was still pending review, but it let me estimate my need and gave a breakdown of estimated cost of attendance.

The deadline that I was able to see through my acceptance letter online was April 15 with a $250 deposit.

Just got accepted into UNC Chapel Hill's MSW program today!

My god, my heart is still shaking from the news. Can't believe I got

into the program that I thought was a long-shot! Has everyone here

decided to head to UNC?

Good luck to those still waiting! Acceptances are coming out!

A rep from UNC 's MSW program came to our campus and I spoke with her about the scary GRE (math portion in particular). I suggested they test on Mandarin Chinese rather than algebra/geometry...as many of us would do about the same score-wise - and maybe even better. I'm feeling your pain because I knew going into the GRE that my score would be pretty pathetic. AND it was!! But my verbal was pretty high... The contact at UNC asked me how I did in statistics and I did well in that, so she said that they would look at "the whole picture." I also saw a blog from a current student whose standardized testing ability was not her forte... I guess the short answer is: um... ohgosh, anybody's guess. Hopefully, they do look at GPA, references, statements, etc. And with that said, I miss terribly the snail-mail days (I'm an old girl) when one only had to check ONCE PER DAY for "the coveted letter / packet". I seriously have a growing obsessional neurosis at this point, checking e-mail way, way, way, too often. :)

Hi Wil_2004,

I just got my acceptance to UNC yesterday (Feb 26) and I wanted to reassure you that they look at your whole application.

Before I was extremely nervous because from what it seems like (their representatives, their webpage) that the GRE is weighed

heavily. My GRE scores were horrible: 158V 148 Q and Writing 5.5. The only portion that I somehow managed to do "okay"

in was the writing portion. Math scores was in the 38%. I did not do very well in STATS either. With that said, I felt like I wasn't

even qualified enough to "APPLY" to an elite school like UNC, but did it anyway. I worked very hard on my personal statement

and somehow pulled through! My overall GPA was a 3.1 and my Major GPA was a 3.9.

Don't worry too much!! They notify you by email so heads up! Good luck to you :)

Got an invitation from the Unc social work school to the April welcome weekend about an hour ago. The email said that I should be getting an official acceptance email from the graduate school soon!? Of course I will need to wait to hear about any financial aid.

CONGRATS!! Thanks for posting. Send good vibes to those of us trolling the forum for any news... :)

Curious-- if you already heard, when did you submit your application? I submitted the day before it was due so maybe that's why I feel like I am last to know. Also, did anyone find out after business hours??
