CaliGrad87 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I was recently accepted into the M.A. in Media & Public Affairs program at George Washington University. Just wanted to see if anyone here is a current or past student who can tell me a little more about what the program is like and how it has/hasn't helped with your career goals. Or if you are someone working in the political communications/journalism field, what your perception of the program is? Thank!
ThisGuyRiteHere Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Unless you have previous experience, I would be wary of a degree like this. Its going to run you probably 100k all in when most entry level media jobs pay 50-60k...Which means about 3500 dollars a month for 2000 a month loan payments.
Mnemonics2 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Honestly, GWU is the place to be for studying the crossroads of media analysis and political science/public affairs. Sure, it is expensive, but there is a lot to be said about this program. MA's are not at all worthless, particularly in a subfield like that which has practical applications if you want to work for the likes of Pew or for the federal government or similar organization in a planning capacity. CaliGrad87 Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Thanks for the responses. For the record, I have about 3 years of communications/marketing/editorial experience. One of the good things about the program is classes are at night, so you can work fulltime while studying, which helps mediate the costs a bit. And I don't have any undergrad debt, so this would be it.
ThisGuyRiteHere Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Oh that changes things. Do it then. Congrats! CaliGrad87 1
