So I've just been admitted to Milwaukee and waitlisted for funding.... did anyone else receive their funding info yet? I'm curious to know how big this wait list is :)

I haven't heard anything from Milwaukee yet. Even their website still has me listed as "referred for review."  Ugh.

Received an acceptance and a pretty generic snail mail letter. Nothing about funding. Going to contact the department head next week.

I've been offered a TAship and an award, pending approval, but no indication of the amount.

How were you notified of the offer, Por?

Congratulations, porridge! I'm international too (uk). I'm wait listed behind phd students as I only applied to the MA. I really love the course there so I'm still holding out hope, however hopelessly!

Do you mean waitlisted for funding? What is your speciality?

Sorry, yep I was accepted but wait listed for a TA ship etc. I guess post colonial as a broad specialty, although my interests cross through all kinds of minority literatures. How about yourself?

I'm also wait-listed for funding (TAship) and "have been ranked highly and placed in a top spot on our TAship waiting list." The English Grad website there has some info about what the TAship includes (I think something like $13,500, tuition remission, etc.).

My letter says: "I sincerely hope that you will enroll in our program, but I also want to inform you of the financial aid situation at UWM. Teaching assistantship and fellowship funding will continue to be available for students enrolled in our programs, but competition for these resources is likely to intensify."

Also, I just realized something weird about the letter: the first acceptance letter I received from the Dean of the Graduate School says I was admitted to the "English PhD program," but the letter from the DGS says "admission to the MA program in English."

Why are these conflicting??

Also, I already HAVE a MA!

Anyway, I've received much better offers, so I'm going to decline UWM—which will make the wait-list shorter!

Hey porridge and dmmar (and anyone else for that matter in this thread) what track did you apply to?

Literature and Cultural Theory.

Received a response from the DGS—I was accepted to the PhD program (not the MA); not sure if that affects my funding status, though.

Just got the same today and the first school that I've received funding info on. No funding.

Sigh.

Is it weird that that stings more than my only rejection so far?

Being accepted but without funding is almost worse than not being accepted for me. For some reason.

I'm willing positive things for you!

Thanks! In an interesting development, one of my POIs emailed me today to set up a phone call to discuss the "good fit" between me and the program. She also said the rhet/comp faculty is "very excited" about the prospects of me coming there.

So, this seems like good news, right? Still haven't received anything by mail, nor has my status been updated on PAWS.

And that's exactly how I feel.  :(

That would be my reaction - and was - because I got the exact same email. What degree/track did you apply for? Oh, and good luck with your phone interview!

Yeah...I'm not really sure what to make of it.

I applied for the Rhetoric and Composition track.

Best of luck!
