Boril Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hey all, A week ago I received an email from graduate admissions at a school where I applied to an M.S. Civil engineering program. All it said was "congratulations, you're accepted" and that more info would be in the mail. Well, today I got a letter they sent. The letter has all the typical account set-up stuff in it, but there's zero info from the engineering department, no info about visiting, and no mention of financial assistance or lack thereof. It was really quite anticlimactic. Should I just be patient and wait for more info to come, or is it reasonable for me to be getting in touch with someone with questions at this point? I really do not know how to proceed from here. Thanks for any words of advice you might have!
MonkeyDr Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I'm in a similar position. Hopefully someone has some advice. I'm stuck between contacting them as well or waiting.
courtc8891 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 The same thing happened to me as well, only it's not my top choice so I suppose it's okay in my situation. Maybe this is common? Anyway, if they have a graduate coordinator listed in the department it might not hurt to shoot them off an email. I approached a grad coordinator (different situation though, I had heard from the department directly) and he was incredibly helpful and friendly. They expect questions this time of year, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to pose some.
pears Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 this has happened to me with both of my acceptances so far. after a few days of radio silence following the acceptances, i contacted the graduate chair of each program's anthropology department, and got responses from them within a couple of hours indicating that, indeed, i was officially accepted (e.g., listing my advisor, sending me student contact info, explaining the online "here's my decision" buttons to me). as courtc said, just contact the department grad chair. they'll know who you are and should be able to help!
Boril Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions courtc and pears. I'll try to get in contact with the department chair early next week. Here's hoping there's more good news to come!
quilledink Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 This also happened to me with two admits the week before last. I emailed them after hearing nothing from the departments after waiting a week and they were more than happy to let me know the specifics of my acceptance. In both cases I emailed the department secretary (one of them told me to email the Chair), but they were all very friendly about it Good luck!
