queenleblanc Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 So, what academic publications are you reading? For those people who interview and are asked the question about current issues in SLP, what kinds of online journals (etc) do you consider to be an authority? To what magazines / journals should someone who is out-of-field subscribe? (another bored and waiting thread, hoping this one is also full of useful information for all of us!) Thanks in advance for sharing...!!!
SLPjmar Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I subscribed to ASHA's, because it was something I trusted and it was easy (and interesting!) to read.
queenleblanc Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 I should add, I did look at the ASHA website and am reading the ASHA Leader: http://www.asha.org/leader.aspx I suppose this topic would do very well with publications that are perhaps not listed on ASHA's website, which may have been my mental goal anyway... but whatever you think is worth reading, let's put it here! :-)
katieliz456 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I try to browse the ASHA Leader and the NSSLHA Now newsletter to stay up to date on stuff in the SLP world I like to take advantage of my undergrad's resources, because they give us access to pretty much every peer-reviewed journal in existence. The Journal of Child Language and the Journal of Speech, Language, & Hearing Research are ones I look at frequently that seem to be popular. However, my favorite things to read (for my personal enjoyment, not for formal research projects) are unpublished manuscripts and thesis/dissertations. I enjoy learning about the innovative, cutting-edge studies that haven't gotten around to being published yet, and that we haven't heard about 1000x from our professors! Even if you don't have access to journals from your current institution, I think you can access quite a few of these through google scholar
