kiki123 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I have recently received an acceptance letter from a school that I am very interested in attending. However, I am still waiting to hear back from other schools that I've applied to to make my final decision. In my letter of acceptance, there is no mention of by when I must accept or decline my offer, which leaves me perplexed. Is there a common deadline to abide by or should I contact admissions and ask?
MadScience Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 The general rule is April 15th. I believe (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) that all schools are required to abide by this deadline, at least in the US.
Sconnie Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 They required to abide by it but rather have an understanding that April 15th is the standard.
Phdoobiedoobiedoo Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 This is the agreement made with the Council of Graduate Students, and the schools that signed it, as pertaining to a funded offer: http://www.cgsnet.org/ckfinder/userfiles/files/CGS_Resolution.pdf
tarrman Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Note that the April 15th date is the EARLIEST deadline to accept. Some schools set it later (for example, Michigan EE has a deadline to accept of May 1st, but they signed the CGS resolution).
kiki123 Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 Thanks for the information, everyone. I feel much better knowing that there is a standard deadline.
