when to call after interview?

I had an interview for a masters program on February 1st. They said I should know by the end of the month whether or not I was accepted. Well, its the day before the end of the month and I still have not heard anything. When is it okay to call and ask about my status? Also, how do you ask politely where it doesn't sound like I'm desperate to know (even though we all know we are haha)

personally, i'd hang tight until tomorrow or friday, but i tend to bank on the cautious side of things. i don't see the harm in calling!

I would wait a few more days, but if I were to call, you could just say

 

"I'd like to ask on the status of my application"
