metalist Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Thank you, reborn, this information quiet calms me. are you from sculpture or J&M? or both, and why are you reborn, are you coming from another discipline? my background is actually graphic design, so am lacking information on the J&M field, as you can see. Although having the chance, I know I will do great. I hope you are o.k with my questions and I hope you'll find yourself where you want.
Reborn Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) rene (my name) translates from spanish to english as "reborn". I'm more on the on J+M side of the equation...though I have been working on changing scale and incorporating performance and photography into my studio practice. My background (undergrad) is in history. samples of my work: http://rfgalvan.tumblr.com/ Edit: If I don't get into a program, I'll be equally excited for relocating to Texas and starting a studio practice there...and maybe consider re-applying for an MFA in a year or 2. metalist Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 nice work although really far from what I'm doing. good luck to you and if you can think of any other supplemental experience I'd love to hear.
GoodAdvise Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I've noticed that on this forum people tend to only talk about the top schools. There are apparently over 100 schools that offer MFAs so not every school will be mentioned. I was accepted to Ohio University, which is ranked around #50, so I don't expect many people to talk about it. I still wish you could just tell us the name! I don't see the big deal. There are around 200 schools offering the MFA, most in the top 100 are pretty decent and the USNEWS ranking is fickle at best. Alignment of direction. philosophy, expectations, career goals to the school mission is MOST important. Many overlook great schools and only consider a "sacred" few that treat most students like cannon fodder. hwrios 1
