philapp Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Hi, I have been invited for an interview week at my top school in Germany. The interview week is quite scheduled, and they say candidates should use this time to find a project and a potential supervisor, and only those who find a project can be admitted! They also provide accommodation, and offer refunds for travel costs etc. When I received the email, I had only two weeks time to apply for visa, so I told them I need more time as visa application process takes about 4 to 6 weeks time. They offered a Skype interview instead. So instead of one week interview, they offered a Skype interview in which I have 20 minutes time to present my research topic (I have already submitted my own research project) for 4-5 faculty (!!), and then they ask questions for about 10 minutes. Do you think 30 minutes Skype instead of a week interview is affecting my chances of admission? Thank you!
PsychGirl1 Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I think it will possibly affect your chances of admission, but sounds like there aren't any other options for you... so just do your best and cross your fingers!
CBrown Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Shouldn't affect your chances, skype and phone interviews are common when long distance is an issue. As long as you present yourself as well as you would in person, they'll see you as a viable candidate. Good luck!
