Hi,

I still haven't received a reply back from some schools I've applied for, while others have already received replies back. Would it be recommended to e-mail the graduate director to check the status of my application? If so, what would be a good way to phrase the e-mail? For example, should I mention the professor I hope to work with?

Thanks!

If others have received replies, I don't see the damage in emailing to ask. I'd go ahead and do it, and I don't think you need to mention anything besides that. Perhaps mention your subfield if they send out admittances for different subfields at different times.

Thanks! I'm planning to do that now, but being as anxious as I am, I'm figuring out what to say :-/

Any help might be appreciated seeing that I don't want to screw this up...

"Hello. I'm sorry to bother you during a busy time, but I've noticed that a fair number of others have heard back from your Department regarding their applications. Could I ask about the status of mine?"

Then thanks, etc., etc.
