avatarmomo Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Sorry for overcrowding this forum with a new topic. Today, I have learned that I was waitlisted at JHU, just at the time when I completely lost my hopes. This application term was a failure for me since I got rejections from every single program I have applied. I never thought that I had a chance at JHU since my stats were no good, so being waitlisted now is enough to raise my hopes again. I know that they are aiming at a small cohort, and it is highly probable that people who got accepted may not lean towards declining the offer. So I have very little chance. I just wanted to know if anybody is considering to decline the offer they got from JHU. Also, if you have any knowledge on this one, can you tell me the odds that a waitlisted one be accepted at such a small program? I dont wish to put pressure on anyone who deserved their place at JHU, please dont get me wrong. Maybe I'm too impatient, but this is my last chance. I believe you can sympathize with that. Many thanks.
bertiek Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I'd love more information on this as well. I'm an alternate also, and it really seems like a great program.
avatarmomo Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Hey bertiek. Congrats! Can I ask you a couple of questions? Is there a difference between being waitlisted and being an alternate? Is there a ranking among alternate applicants? Also, is there anything to do until a decision is made other than waiting? If not personal, can I ask you under which area are you considered? Global social change or social inequality? As an international applicant, mine is the first one. Lastly, did you hear anything about the ones who have been actually accepted since I haven't seen a single acceptance in the results page yet? Thanks, and I wish you the best.
bertiek Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I have no idea about waitlist versus alternate. I wondered the same thing. I guess I'm an alternate? No idea about ranking either. I'm in inequality. I didn't see any accepts on the results page either, but I know from JHU's website that they're aiming for a cohort of 5-6 (so small!). I don't know of anything to do in the meantime other than sending a note to confirm you'd like to remain under consideration. Good luck! avatarmomo 1
tinatin Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 hi, has anyone declined an offer from Johns Hopkins? tintin
avatarmomo Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 I'm still waiting. I wish someone could at least claim an acceptance so that we could have a better understanding of what our chances are. Good luck tinatin. And by the way, are you an international student? Do you have any competing offer from somewhere else? Thanks.

But I will prefer J. Hopkins :-(

bertiek Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Good luck tinatin! Are you looking at global social change or social inequality?
avatarmomo Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) I got rejected. Good luck to you all. I sincerely hope the best for you. Edited April 5, 2013 by deligotu
