I just turned down my offer last night if there are any LPO PhD waitlisters out there (was on another waitlist myself).

I just heard I was accepted off the waitlist. I don't know anything about the school beyond what I've read on the website. Are any of you going? Anyone have any inside the department details?

I'm waitlisted for funding at UPenn and waitlisted at Hopkins. I have other options, but I think those two are my top choices, so fingers crossed!

I have no idea about waitlist versus alternate. I wondered the same thing. I guess I'm an alternate? No idea about ranking either. I'm in inequality. I didn't see any accepts on the results page either, but I know from JHU's website that they're aiming for a cohort of 5-6 (so small!). I don't know of anything to do in the meantime other than sending a note to confirm you'd like to remain under consideration. Good luck!

Hi Lydialiu-- have you heard anything? I'm so impatient! I think Penn is my first choice at this point.

I have not found this to be the case at all. Rental prices vary widely. Peek at Craigslist before making a decision. Rent in Palo Alto (Stanford), for example, is way more than rent in Nashville (Vanderbilt).

I'm still waiting to hear about the PhD program too. Did you go to the recruitment event? I think there they said they'd notify the first week of March. Has anyone heard yet about the PhD program?

Surely there's a waitlist! I emailed this morning to see if I could get confirmation of my rejection and am still waiting on a response. I'll let you know what I hear.

Me too! I wonder how many people they take a year. Probably not many... I got impatient and emailed. They said they're still making decisions and will know something by early next week at the latest.

Does the professer have a weird name? If so (and if you have the chance), you could say you're really embarassed but you'd never heard the name spoken out loud before and you've been pronouncing it in your head wrong so didn't recognize it...

I saw one interview for Hopkins on the results board. Has anyone else heard anything?

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from UVA. Also, any idea what their funding looks like? There are some professors there doing work that really fits my interests, but I have no idea what to expect in terms of funding. Last-- the website says you can finish your phd in 3 years if you come in with a MA. I'm wondering how possible that really is, and also whether it'd be advisable.

I went to a non-soc visit last weekend that said they'd notify people in early March, so it can take longer.

I'm also on the waitlist for funding... So does that mean we'd also be responsible for tuition?
